Satu Hovi's historic costumes

Historic costumes

Historical costumes and costumes with historic feeling that I make are unique products. They are full of eye catching details. When I start the project with my customer, he /she has a picture or a model which he/she likes. Normally we co-operate and select the fabric quality and matching colors together. Costumes are finished and details sharpened while fitting on the costume. Normally we need three fittings. The choice of fabric, customer's taste, the period desired or theme and my view as a designer contribute to the fisished result. Often it is very different when compared to the picture where the idea started, but simply better. The customer him/herself chooses which details he/she wants of those I suggest. That way we make sure that the result is pleasing.
Patterns I draft to the customer's own size using period pattern drafting methods. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance pattern drawing was much different than nowadays. The clothes sat on totally differently and the outlook was different than nowadays. The seams were often themselves decorated details. After the clothing making process the patterns will remain and it is possible to make other costumes the same size but different details to create a different look.
The price list and my contact information You will find at the bottom of this page. I also make costumes for persons living outside of Finland. Other arrangements are made for these kinds of fittings.
